My New Year’s Resolution Through God’s Eyes

It’s almost January 1st which means we’ll be trying to figure out our New Year’s resolutions soon.  At the end of this post, I’ve included a link to a great Jeff Cavin’s podcast.  Take 30 minutes to sit down with Jeff as he helps you prayerfully consider what God wants your New Year’s Resolutions to be for 2023.

His 5-step process is simple:

  1. Gratitude:  look back on 2022 and list all the things that God blessed you with and that you’re thankful for.

  2. Ask Jesus to show you what He wants you to see as you review 2022 and set new goals for 2023.

  3. Review 2022: consider your personal challenges and triumphs, major events, and pivotal conversations.  This is not a time to beat yourself up but rather to look at what you did well and what needs improvement.

  4. Ask Jesus to show you what areas of your life need repentance and then repent.

  5. Renewal: look forward to 2023 and ask God to show you ways that you can work on your relationship with Him, ways that you are being called to live out your vocation (family, friends, work), and finally, ways that you can help spread the Gospel.

I’ve heard that most people give up on their New Year’s resolutions before January 31st.  For me, it’s usually sooner than that.  Perhaps that is because we aren’t asking for God’s help in this process.
